Exploring The Career Planning Of English Education Department Students

Career planning is important for someone, especially for English Education Department students. This career planning is a step to help them make a career that interests them. Careful career planning must be based on confidence in one’s abilities so that the career goals of interest are appropriate. This study aims to find out the career planning of English Education Department students. The participants in this research were seven 7th-semester students of the English Education Department at one of the universities in Pekalongan. The research data was collected through semi-structured interviews, which were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The research results showed that several careers were planned by English Education Department students, including English teacher, entrepreneur, stewardess, and customer service in banking. Their reasons for choosing those careers because their individual charactecteristics with the interests, abilities, and based on their educational background as English students. Apart from that, all participants carried out the career planning process well by integrating self-understanding and knowledge of the world of careers. It is shown that career planning could help students achieve their career goals.
