Students' Problems in Survival Speaking Class Through Whatssapp Group

The Covid-19 pandemic has a big impact in education. The implementation of online learning is one of the learning models carried out during the pandemic. Online learning can be implemented using an internet-based interactive model, for example by using the WhatsApp application. This study aims to investigate the students problems while survival speaking class through WhatsApp group. The researcher used a qualitative approach. In collecting the data, the researcher used semi-structured interview. The collected data is analyzed by using model analysis from Miles and Huberman. This study used theory from Tuan and Mai in discussing students speaking difficulties. The participants of this research are four students of first semester in Pancasakti University, Tegal. The results of this study showed that during the Survival Speaking course through the WhatsApp group, students have several problems such as not being confident in sending voice note, having no friends as partners for speaking practice, feeling bored while learning and having problems WhatsApp cannot be used to send voice note. But students also have ways of dealing with these problems, such as making notes, using Google Assistant as a partner to practice survival speaking, studying via YouTube and allowing WhatsApp to access the microphone.
