Politeness Strategies in The Film Entitled "Freedom Writer" By Richard Lagravenese

Politeness has important role in every humans interactions to make communication with others effective. By using politeness we keep respect otherself’ face image. This research study is used to analyze the politeness strategy in the “Freedom Writer” movie that used main character “Erin Gruwell” and her students only in English writing class, based on Brown and Levinson’s theory. This research using descriptive qualitative study with the script and the movie as film as the data to analyzed. The results showed that the most widely used strategy based on Brown and Levinson's theory was the positive strategy, the strategy that was used several times was the negative strategy and bald-on record, and the bald-of-record strategy that was rarely used.
