Students’ experiences of the use of Youtube in learning english public speaking
The use of YouTube videos as a learning media has gained popularity among university students in learning English public speaking because there are many videos from native speakers which help students speak appropriately. This study aimed to explore undergraduate students’ experiences of the use of YouTube in learning English public speaking at one of the universities in Pekalongan. This study used a qualitative method with a narrative inquiry design. To collect the data, the researcher implied a semi-structured interview. This study involved four undergraduate students who are majoring in English Education in the sixth semester. Thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke (2006) and Kolb's (2015) theory were used to analyze the data. The results of this study showed that the students have positive experiences while using YouTube videos in learning public speaking. They were namely positive experiences in improving pronunciation, English vocabulary, and body movement skills. The next finding reported that there were several difficulties faced by undergraduate students in learning public speaking using YouTube videos. They were namely fluency of the speakers, unfamiliar words used by speakers, and connection trouble. This research can make a significant contribution to the field of language education by improving our understanding of how technology can be used to support language learning.
