Pre-Service Teachers' Strategies For Teaching Grammar: A Narrative of University Students in a Microteaching Class
Pre-service teachers are college students who are still learning about becoming professional teachers. This study is aimed to know the strategies used by pre-service teachers in a microteaching class and the challenges faced by pre-service teachers in teaching grammar in a microteaching class. The method used by the researcher is a qualitative method with a narrative inquiry design. The researcher used the semi-structured interview, observation, and documentation to collect the data. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis of Braun and Clarke. The participants of this study are pre-service teachers of English Education department who practice teaching grammar in a microteaching class. The result of this study showed that the strategies used by pre-service teachers to teach grammar includes deductive and inductive approach while the challenges faced by pre-service teachers in teaching grammar includes students, teaching experience of pre-service teachers, lack of facilities, negative perception of pre-service teachers, pre-service teachers’ high expectation and grammar is one of the difficult lessons. The finding can be a consideration for pre-service teachers who will teach grammar.
