Students' Politeness in Written Communications: An Issue of Students-Lecturers Interaction on Virtual Learning
This research aims to analyze and describe the politeness strategies as well as its dominant type used by students in written communication during virtual learning. Case study is applied as the research method of this study. The gathered data were analyzed by using thematic content analysis. Brown and Levinson's theory is used to determine and classify the categories of politeness strategies on communication during virtual learning. According to the findings of this research, students participating in online education make use of a total of 39 different politeness strategies, with the most of dominant type is positive politeness strategy. The research contributes to theoritical insight of the theory of Brown and Levinson and give empirical insight about student-lecturer politeness in online learning.
