Profiling Teacher's Strategies in Teaching English Reading for Junior High School Students During The Covid-19 Pandemic
Reading is one of the skills that have a significant influence on the success of learning English—learning during the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a number of English teachers and junior high school students experiencing difficulties in accessing learning. This study aims to investigate several strategies that English teachers apply in developing reading skills, during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This qualitative research examines various strategies used by English teachers as well as grounded theory (inductive) analysis. The results showed that English teachers have used eight strategies in reading skills for instance. Implementation of E-learning (WhatsApp) as the media used by teachers to convey material, visualization with pictures and videos because it can increase student stimulus according to predictive techniques, analysis of difficult vocabulary so students understand a variety of words such as synonyms or antonyms, translating words/sentences with Google translate because it is more efficient, read aloud because students can be more confident and improve the quality of their pronunciation, read silently as to increase focus in reading, question and answer because there is a lot of specific information in the text that needs to be questioned and answered critically, and finally the strategy of discussion to the text which have developed the nature of cooperation among students.
