The English Teachers' Strategies in Teaching Speaking (A Narrative Inquiry at Two Vocational Schools in Batang Regency)
Teaching strategy can be interpreted as a plan that contains a series of activities designed to achieve certain educational goals. The aim of teaching speaking is to improve students' oral production. The ability to speak is the main target of learning English in the realm of developing the role of language. This study aims to find out how the strategies used and implemented by the teachers in the two schools, and to find out what are the inhibiting factors in teaching speaking. The data sources for this study were two English teachers from two vocational schools in Batang Regency. The type of research used is qualitative with narrative inquiry method. Data collection techniques will be carried out by interview, observation, and documentation, as well as using narrative techniques as a data analysis technique. The results obtained from this research are; the first teacher uses three teaching strategies, namely drilling, role-playing and picture describing. Then the second teacher uses two teaching strategies, namely drilling and group discussion. The inhibiting factors in teaching speaking skills according to the two teachers are motivation and creativity.
