EFL Teachers' Experience on Distance Learning : A Study in Senior High School
Distance learning is popular teaching approach in COVID-19 pandemic period. This
approach becomes popular because it focuses on two purposes, education, and health in
society such as teachers, school employer, students, and parents. The purpose of this
research is to reveal how EFL teachers implement distance learning by using M. Burn
(2011) on his book “Distance Education Teacher Training” which talked about theory and
practice in distance learning. On this study, the researcher envolved three EFL teachers
from different senior high school at Kab. Pekalongan. The data is collected by using semistructured
interview directly face to face. For reading and analyzin the data, the researcher
used thematic analysis. The result of the study showed that teaching in distance learning
used three kinds: correspondence model, web model, and mobile model which helped
teaching-learning process in COVID-19 pandemic period with the instruction run with
learned-centered instruction. The changing of conventional classroom into virtual
classrom brings the challenges who faced by EFL teachers. By finding the study, it can be
expected as comparison when teaching through distance learning approach. This research
is also expected to contribute the empirical evidence of EFL teachers’ experience while
teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.
