Code Mixing in South Jakarta Language Style Used in English Learning
This research aims to examine the use of the South Jakarta language style in learning English. A qualitative case study approach was used in this research to explain students' experiences regarding the application of code-mixing or mixing language to use the South Jakarta language when learning English and used to communicate. This study discusses the types and factors of code-mixing. This thesis aims to analyze the types of code mixing used by students in English class at Pemalang, Central Java. It classifies code-mixed speech into three types: insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization Musyken (2000). Besides that, to analyze the reasons that encourage students to code-mixing their conversations in class discussions in two languages, Indonesian and English. The data results show 17 extracts, namely extract 1 to 17 where extract 1 to 9 are insertion, extract 10 to 16 are alternation, and extract 17 are congruent lexicalization. 5 reasons by Hoffman’s Theory such as Talking about a particular topic, Real lexical needs, Being emphatic about something, Interlocutor and expressing group identity and Interjection. The data were collected through observation and interviews.
