Teachers' Challenges in Teaching English Vocabulary For Vocational High School Students
The aim of this study is to identify the difficulties of teachers and to identify the
elements causing difficulties for teachers to teach English vocabulary. This research
is motivated by the problems of students who still have difficulties in mastering
English vocabularies, especially difficulties in receiving subject matter taught by
the teacher because the lack of vocabulary mastery, and students motivation that
still low. This study uses qualitative approach with a case study as the research
design. To gain the data, the researcher used interview some teachers in one of
Vocational High School in Pekalongan. The data analysis of this study used the
technique of data analysis from describing, emergence of findings and comparing.
As results, the researcher found that there are some of challenges faced by English
teachers in teaching English vocabularies, such as : Limited knowledge of students
about pronounciation; Students’ low motivation; Short attention span ; Personality
and individual differences. Some of the challenges faced by teachers’ who teach
English vocabulary can be overcome the effort done by English teachers’ with
several techniques and strategies, such as : Building students’ interest in English;
Vocabulary Exercises; Innovative Teaching Methods; Using Interesting Media.
This study is expected to help the teachers to prepare and be creative to make the
students more easier in mastering vocabulary.
